Oklahoma State will need to build its roster through the transfer portal and is making those first steps.

According to Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports, Tulane transfer Kolby King has received interest from OSU. Although OSU’s offseason has been slow through three weeks, the hiring of head coach Steve Lutz appears to have got things moving.

In his introductory press conference on Thursday, Lutz stressed the need to build through the transfer portal. Not only was it a priority for him to retain the talent from last season’s team, but he also wanted to bring in outside help that aligns with his vision for the program. It appears King is someone who fits what Lutz wants.

Last season, King played at Tulane and helped the Green Wave to a 14-17 record. King averaged 10.4 points and 1.4 steals while shooting 37.9% from beyond the arc.

Including an 18-point game against Mississippi State, King scored in double figures 14 times last season. Tulane’s style also makes King an intriguing option for Lutz.

At 73.4 possessions per game, Tulane ranked 17th in the nation in pace last season. Lutz’s Western Kentucky team ranked first, which could be an indication of what the Cowboys will look like next season.

A three-star prospect coming out of Pembroke Pines Charter in Florida, King chose to go to St. John’s. Spending only one season in Rick Pitino’s program, King struggled to find consistent playing time. He averaged only 7.7 minutes and 1.7 points in 26 games, all coming off the bench.

However, with his substantial improvements as a shooter at Tulane, King is a viable option for Lutz at OSU. Although his numbers are not guaranteed to translate to the Big 12, he could be a significant signing and help OSU carry momentum throughout the offseason.
