LOOK: Former Rebel Tim Elko Reacts to White Sox Selection of Jacob Gonzalez in MLB Draft

In this story:
OXFORD, Miss. -- As the saying goes, "One never graduates from Ole Miss." That can certainly be said for baseball legends Tim Elko and Jacob Gonzalez.
When the Rebels shortstop was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft on Sunday, he joined another recent Ole Miss product in Elko who is working his way up to the South Side of Chicago. Elko is currently housed with the White Sox's High-A affiliate, the Winston-Salem Dash.
Immediately following Chicago's pick of Jacob Gonzalez, Elko shared some love for his former teammate on social media, emojis included.
I personally LOVE this pick 😍 https://t.co/BgbeNmx9xs

Elko and Gonzalez were both a huge part of the most historic accomplishment in Ole Miss baseball history: the claiming of the 2022 national championship. Although Elko departed Oxford following the championship season, Gonzalez remained on the roster for another year, a campaign that was not kind to his Rebels in 2023.
Despite that, the Glendora, Calif., native was a doubles machine in 2023, as his 18 two-baggers were tied for seventh in the Southeastern Conference. While upping his double total, he lowered his strikeouts to a career-low 28 in 202 at-bats last season.
In all three years at Ole Miss, he never had a season with an on-base-plus-slugging percentage lower than .900. The Rebels will likely have at least two more draftees in outfielder Kemp Alderman and catcher Calvin Harris, who are the Nos. 55 and 133 prospects, according to MLB.com.
For now, however, Rebel fans can relive that summer in Omaha with the reuniting of these players in a professional organization.
