LIVE UPDATES: Rebels Baseball Looks to Take Series vs. High Point

The Ole Miss Rebels will look to win their first weekend series of the 2024 season on Sunday afternoon versus the High Point Panthers.

OXFORD, Miss. -- We have reached the first Energy Sunday of the 2024 season at Swayze Field, and the Ole Miss Rebels will be looking to win their first weekend series of the year on Sunday afternoon against the High Point Panthers. 

After losing ugly on Friday night, the Rebels tied the series on Saturday with a dominant 12-2 win over High Point. RHP Grayson Saunier will get his second start of the season on Sunday.

PREGAME

Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco released his starting lineup for the day on Sunday afternoon, and it can be found below.

Ole Miss is once again taking the field in their pinstriped uniforms, and High Point is wearing all-purple.

FIRST INNING

Grayson Saunier gets out of the top of the first with a quick 1-2-3 inning on Sunday afternoon. 

MID 1: Ole Miss 0, High Point 0

Ethan Groff puts the Rebels on the board first with his first home run of the 2024 season. Ole Miss 1, High Point 0

An error put Andrew Fischer at second with zero outs for Ole Miss, and Ethan Lege joined him on first after drawing a walk. The bases quickly loaded up for designated hitter Will Furniss, and the sophomore smashed a homerun and it is now Ole Miss 5, High Point 0.

The Panthers make their first pitching change of the day with zero outs in the bottom of the first. 

Reagan Burford keeps the train rolling for Ole Miss in the bottom half of the frame with a two-run bomb into the left field stands and it is now Ole Miss 7, High Point 0.

Two walks and a single have the bases loaded for Ole Miss again in the bottom of the first. Runner at third advances on a fly out and it is now Ole Miss 8, High Point 0 with two outs on the board for the Rebels.

Jackson Ross steps to the plate and adds to the Rebels' lead with a three-run bomb and it is now Ole Miss 11, High Point 0.

Furniss takes a two-strike walk in his second at-bat of the inning. Luke Hill flies out to end the frame.

END 1: Ole Miss 11, High Point 0

SECOND INNING

Saunier issues his first walk of the game before striking out his next two batters. The sophomore righty closed out the top of the second with a pop-up into center field.

MID 2: Ole Miss 11, High Point 0

Reagan Burford gets hit by a pitch and is sent to first to start the frame for Ole Miss. C Campbell Smithwick keeps the Rebels moving on the base path by drawing a walk. Ethan Groff knocks in a RBI double and it is now Ole Miss 12, High Point 0 with one out in the bottom of the second.

One at-bat later, and Andrew Fischer cranks his second home run of the season to add onto Ole Miss' lead. It is now Ole Miss 15, High Point 0.

Two more runners reach base for Ole Miss before Will Furniss takes the plate for the third time this afternoon, forcing High Point to make yet another pitching change. Furniss grounds out to first, and Luke Hill steps to the plate with two outs on the board. Hill draws a walk, and the bases are once again juiced for the Rebels.

Treyson Hughes ends the inning with a fly out into center field.

END 2: Ole Miss 15, High Point 0

THIRD INNING

Saunier nearly gets out of the top of the third with a 1-2-3 sequence, but the Panthers squeak a single up the middle and put a runner on first with two outs. Another single into center field puts runners at the corners for High Point. 

The runner at third advances home on a wild pitch and it is now Ole Miss 15, High Point 1.

Saunier strikes the next batter out, and gets out of the inning with one run scored.

MID 3: Ole Miss 15, High Point 1

Reagan Burford draws his first walk of the day to reach first and then steals second. Campbell Smithwick draws a walk and the Rebels now have runners on the corners following another advance from Burford. Another Ole Miss walk loads the bases for Andrew Fischer. 

Burford crosses homeplate to extend the Rebels' lead, and then Judd Utermark knocks in two more RBIs with a single into center. It is now Ole Miss 18, High Point 1 with zero outs on the board for the Rebels.

Will Furniss takes the plate with the bases loaded once again, and draws his second walk of the afternoon to make it Ole Miss 19, High Point 1 with the bases still juiced and no outs on the board. A Luke Hill walk quickly makes it Ole Miss 20, High Point 1.

The Panthers get their first out of the frame, but the Rebels score another runner, and it is now Ole Miss 21, High Point 1.

Furniss tags up from third on a fly out to left field and it is now Ole Miss 22, High Point 1. Ethan Groff ends the inning with a fly out to SS.

END 3: Ole Miss 22, High Point 1

FOURTH INNING

Two runners reach first and second in the top of the fourth before Saunier started going to work. The sophomore left those Panthers stranded on the base path with a strikeout to end the top half of the inning.

MID 4: Ole Miss 22, High Point 1

Freshman OF Seth Farni struck out swinging to start the frame for the Rebels. 

Judd Utermark reaches first after drawing his first walk of the afternoon. Jackson Ross singles to third and advances Utermark to second. Utility freshman Trenton Lyons comes in to pinch hit for Will Furniss and knocks in another run for the Rebels on a double into center. It is now Ole Miss 23, High Point 1.

Brayden Randle singles into left field, and it is now Ole Miss 24, High Point 1.

A fly out into right field advances another Rebel across home plate, and it is now Ole Miss 25, High Point 1.

A ground out to third ices another explosive inning for the Rebels.

END 4: Ole Miss 25, High Point 1

FIFTH INNING

Grayson Saunier's day is over, and sophomore LHP Liam Doyle is now on the mound for the Rebels.

With one out, High Point reaches second following a double into left field. 

Ole Miss escapes the top of the fifth with no runs, one hit, and one error.

MID 5: Ole Miss 25, High Point 1

C Eli Berch comes in for Campbell Smithwick and draws a walk in his first plate appearance of the day.

Junior OF Connor Chisolm grounds out into a double play and Seth Farni is up to bat for the second time. Farni hits a triple into right field, but the Panthers strand him at third with a fly out that ends the frame.

END 5: Ole Miss 25, High Point 1

SIXTH INNING 

A fielder's choice gives High Point its second run of the afternoon, and it is now Ole Miss 25, High Point 2.

A fly out ends the frame for the Panthers.

MID 6: Ole Miss 25, High Point 2

Freshman Drew Markle gets on first for the Rebels after drawing his first walk of the afternoon.

A ground out into a double play clears the bases for Ole Miss. High Point gets out of the bottom of the sixth with no runs scored.

SEVENTH INNING 

Senior RHP Connor Spencer takes over on the mound for Austin Simmons in the top of the seventh.
