Four Ole Miss Rebels Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels baseball team announced on Tuesday night that four of their players were named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team. Ole Miss catcher Calvin Harris, RHP Jack Dougherty, outfielder Ethan Groff, and RHP Mason Nichols were all honored with the award.
The CSC selects student-athletes for the Academic All-District baseball team who have excelled on the field and in the classroom.
To be considered, a student-athlete must record at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average while appearing in at least 50 percent of the team's games, and pitchers must have at least 10 innings pitched. Academic All-District honorees will now advance to the CSC Academic All‐America ballot, with first-, second-, and third-teams being announced on Wednesday, June 7.
Harris, an Entrepreneurship major, leads the Rebels in runs scored this season (52) while also recording a .327 batting average, 1.003 OPS, 12 home runs, and 45 RBIs. The junior has become one of the best hitters in Ole Miss' lineup this season, as outfielder Kemp Alderman is the only player on the team with better batting statistics than Harris.

Dougherty, a Multi-Disciplinary Studies major, threw the second-most innings on the Ole Miss pitching staff with 55.1 IP, on top of graduating from college this spring. The Collierville, Tenn., native has also allowed the fewest walks on the team (21) and has thrown the third-most strikeouts (60).
Groff entered the spring as a graduate transfer from the Tulane Greenwave and this past weekend graduated with his master's degree in Sports Analytics. The speedy outfielder leads the Rebels in stolen bases this season with 15 and has started every game for Ole Miss in center field.
Nichols, a Biological Science major, has had to take over as one of the go-to relievers this spring due to injuries shaking up the Ole Miss pitching staff this season. The sophomore has appeared on the mound 22 times for the Rebels this spring, recording 45 strikeouts, 15 walks, and four saves in 37.2 innings.
