Ole Miss Baseball Sweeps Morehead State: Three Takeaways

The Ole Miss Rebels held on in Sunday's game to win 6-5 and secure their first sweep of the season

The Ole Miss Rebels seem to be in a groove as the offense continued producing this weekend in a sweep of the Morehead State Eagles.

After a 13-1 win on Saturday, the Rebels finally had a chance to secure a series sweep, and a great performance from Grayson Saunier and the bullpen led to the win in the series finale.

Here are three takeaways from the weekend against Morehead State.

Starting Rotation Solidified?

After seeing this newly-configured rotation, coach Mike Bianco had to be pleased with all three arms.

Gunnar Dennis battled through early adversity on Friday, striking out six and allowing just one earned run. Liam Doyle also shined in his first weekend start of the year, going 3.1 innings with eight strikeouts on Saturday while also only giving up just two free passes.

Grayson Saunier was also locked in, forcing weak contact throughout his appearance on Sunday. He continues to throw up zeros and looks to be the guy to close out weekend slates.

Next week will be a real sign of how good these guys are. It should be exciting as SEC play starts up.

Crooked Numbers

The Rebels bats were cooking this weekend as the offense seemed to throw up big innings left and right. Ethan Lege is still on a crazy tear as his average is sitting at .415, and he continues to produce with the long ball as well with three bombs in four games.

While the top of the order is seeing the ball well, the Rebels left the bases loaded in the middle innings. The bottom of the order needs to be more productive going forward for this team to truly live up to its potential.

Series Sweep

Get the brooms out, the Rebels got a little spring cleaning done with the sweep this weekend.

This can truly inject a ball club with some confidence, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Even after a little bullpen blowup in the latter innings of Sunday's matchup, Josh Malitz was able to work and close out the ballgame.

Finding ways to win even when it isn't pretty is a sign of a confident squad. The Rebels went 4-0 on the week and look to keep it rolling with South Carolina looming.
