OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss Rebels have the hardest schedule in the Southeastern Conference this upcoming college football season, as they are the only team in their league that have road games against the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide. Draft Kings recently released win totals for all 14 SEC teams and set Ole Miss' at 7.5 wins.

On3 analyzed those win projections on Tuesday and broke down which predictions were too high, too low, or just right.

Ole Miss' 7.5 win total was considered too high. The two other teams also projected to be underachievers this season were the Crimson Tide (10.5 wins) and Missouri Tigers (6.5).

Here is the evaluation of Ole Miss' 2023 win total projection.

According to ESPN’s FPI, the Rebels play the hardest schedule in the nation this fall. Lane Kiffin’s team zoomed to a 7-0 start a year ago, and then crated facing a brutal backloaded slate. That won’t be an issue this year, though, as Tulane, the reigning AAC Champs, Alabama and LSU are all in the first month of the season — the first two being on the road. Ole Miss also plays at Auburn, which will draw all sorts of drama because of Kiffin’s flirtation with the Tigers’ opening this offseason, and at Georgia. The Egg Bowl is also a road game.

Once again, Ole Miss has done really well in the transfer portal, but it won’t be afforded a month for a new team to coalesce, and the schedule never lets up the rest of the fall, either.

On top of road matchups versus the Bulldogs and Tide, the Rebels have back-to-back home games versus the Arkansas Razorbacks and LSU Tigers, respectively. Ole Miss will also be tested early in Week 2 when they travel to take on the Tulane Green Wave before conference play even begins. Ole Miss will then hit the road to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the annual Egg Bowl to close out the regular season.

Ole Miss may be stuck with the most difficult schedule in their conference next season, but Lane Kiffin and Co. are preparing for the coming storm thanks to the NCAA Transfer Portal. Newly hired defensive coordinator Pete Golding is using every resource at his disposal to revamp Ole Miss' secondary with big transfers who can play multiple positions in the back end.
