In this story:

The Ole Miss Rebels have a special talent in quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. There is no denying how gifted he is, and Rebels fans got to see that on display last season.

Chambliss threw for 3,937 passing yards and combined for 30 total touchdowns. Those numbers are even more impressive considering he didn't become the starter until week three. That feels so long ago because of the immediate impact Chambliss made.

Barring an injury, he'll get a full season of starts in 2026. Chambliss has an opportunity to do something no Ole Miss quarterback has ever done.

Throw for 4,500 Yards and Set a Record For Combined Touchdowns

Jaxson Dart has the current single-season passing yards record with 4,279. Considering Chambliss nearly threw for 4,000 yards without a couple of starts, beating that number is certainly possible.

The most combined touchdowns by an Ole Miss quarterback came from Chad Kelly in 2015. He threw for a program-high 31 touchdowns and also had 10 rushing touchdowns. Chambliss would need 12 more combined touchdowns from last season to eclipse that mark.

If the Rebels make a deep College Football Playoff run, it's certainly possible that Chambliss can set the record in both categories. It helps having an All-Pro running back in Kewan Lacy who can take the eyes off Chambliss, and allow him to operate at the highest level.

First Ole Miss Player to Win the Heisman?

Chambliss could become the first Rebel to win the Heisman Trophy. There have been plenty of preseason conversations surrounding his chances, and his head coach, Pete Golding, believes he or Lacy can do it.

"No. 1, I think individual accolades in my opinion come from team success," Golding said at SEC Media Days. "And so that was a body of work I think from last season for both those guys to have really, really unique individual years because a lot of really, really good players around them."

If he sets the previously mentioned records and has his team firmly in the CFP, the Heisman Trophy will have Chambliss' name written across it. There is no doubt he has high expectations, but the Ole Miss quarterback has the talent to meet them.

Of course, the Rebels have their eyes set beyond individual records. They'll look to make their first SEC Championship appearance and go on a run similar to last year's.
