Penn State Lands 1st Receiver of 2025 Recruiting Class
The Penn State football 2025 recruiting class received its first commitment from a wide receiver Monday, when 3-star prospect Lyrick Samuel announced his decision. Samuel became the 12th player to join the Nittany Lions' 2025 class. Samuel announced his decision on social media.
Samuel plays for Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, where he was caught 27 passes for 693 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. He is a 3-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite, and ranks as the No. 2 overall player in the state of New York. Samuel is a top-100 receiver nationally, according to 247Sports. Samuel (6-4, 185) brings height to a position that Penn State continues to develop.
Samuel chose Penn State from an offer sheet that included Michigan State, West Virginia and Rutgers, among others. Penn State has been on a recruiting run of late, receiving five commitments over the past month. The most recent was from 3-star offensive lineman Michael Troutman of New Jersey. The group also includes 4-star linebacker Dayshaun Burnett from Pittsburgh's Imani Catholic and 3-star linebacker Alex Tatsch from Greater Latrobe High.
Penn State coach James Franklin's 2025 recruiting class ranks sixth nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite, and second in the Big Ten to Ohio State.
