Blake Hinson Breaks Pitt's Single Season 3-Point Record

Blake Hinson stands alone atop the Pitt Panthers record book.

PITTSBURGH -- Blake Hinson has only played two seasons as a Pitt Panther but he's quickly built a legacy that will last in the minds of his fans and the school record books.

He's already etched his name into Pitt history a handful of times throughout his career and he did it one more time at home against Florida State. Hinson knocked down five 3-pointers, which gave him sole ownership of the school record for 3-pointers made in a single season.

With his fourth 3-pointer of the game, Hinson tied Ashton Gibbs' 102 3-pointers made from the 2011 season. His fifth 3-pointer gave him 103 and the record.

Hinson is now just the seventh Pitt player to make 200 triples in a season and the first to do so during the Jeff Capel era. Only Gibbs, Jason Matthews, Sean Miller, Ronald Ramon, Julius Page, and Brandin Knight have knocked down more 3-pointers than Hinson and he was only a Panther for two seasons. Hinson is also just the 12th player in ACC history to make 90 or more 3-pointers in two separate seasons.

Hinson already owns the Pitt record for 3-pointers in a single game. He has made nine 3-pointers twice this season, against West Virginia and Louisville. Against the Cardinals, he set the Petersen Events Record for points by a Panther with 41, also a career high.

The Panthers needed every bit of Hinson's five 3-pointers as they battled Florida State in a battle critical to their postseason hopes.
