Bracketology Watch: ESPN Reassigns Pitt after Notre Dame Loss

The Pitt Panthers are headed to Sacramento, according to ESPN's latest projections.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers suffered one of their worst losses of the season this week, when they fell 88-81 to Notre Dame in their penultimate regular season contest. But the ugly defeat didn't cost them much in the way of seeding in the NCAA Tournament.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi, widely considered one of the most accurate bracket forecasters in college basketball today, has dropped the Panthers from a nine seed to a 10 seed following their road defeat to the Fighting Irish. Should his predictions hold up, Pitt will face Texas A&M in Sacramento in the first round of the West Region. The winner of No. 2 UCLA vs No. 15 Youngstown State would await the winner of Aggies-Panthers.

Lunardi said before the week began that Pitt would need just one more win - "anywhere, against anyone" - to lock in their first NCAA Tournament berth in seven years. After dropping their last contest to 14th place Notre Dame, the Panthers will have to top No. 16 Miami on the road to get that last win within the regular season. A win over the Hurricanes would also lock up the top seed in the ACC Tournament next week.
