Pitt F Blake Hinson Moves Past Time at Iowa State

Pitt Panthers forward Blake Hinson didn't want to talk about his time at Iowa State.

GREENSBORO -- Before bombing triples for the Pitt Panthers, Blake Hinson was an Iowa State Cyclone. Hinson began his career at Ole Miss and transfered to Iowa State in 2020. He sat out both seasons due to NCAA transfer rules and a medical issue prior to transferring one more time.

As the Panthers prepare for their NCAA Tournament matchup with the Cyclones, Hinson wasn't interested in rehashing his time in Ames, Iowa. Hinson said he had no reaction to playing his former team in this round and didn't want to get into details about why he decided to leave. He is happy to be at Pitt, where he's enjoyed a successful season and helped lead the team to the NCAA Tournament.

"I love it here," Hinson said. "This is my favorite location I've ever been. H2P."

Hinson added that he doesn't keep in contact with any of his former teammates.

Iowa State head coach T.J. Otzelberger was asked about his time coaching Hinson and said he thought it was a mutually beneficial decision for Hinson to move on.

"Blake is a terrific young man, and he signed up to play for the coach prior to us. You know, I think it's something where he felt like it wasn't the best fit for him, and I think both sides have done all right with it," Otzelberger said. "It's one of those situations where I think everybody wants to make something out of it, and at the end there's a young man who is playing really well on an NCAA tournament team, and then it's our group that's playing well also. So everybody came out okay in that situation."
