Pitt PG Getting More NBA Draft Hype

Despite some recent struggles, Pitt Panthers point guard Bub Carrington is still garnering NBA Draft hype.

PITTSBURGH -- Pitt Panthers freshman Bub Carrington continues to garner hype as a bonafide professional prospect as his first season of college basketball hits the grind of ACC play.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman named the Panthers' breakout freshman star as one of the top-100  draft prospects in the sport this season, ranking him No. 61 overall. There are some concerns about holes in his game but the overall talent was too much for Wasserman to ignore.

"Carrington's shotmaking versatility and playmaking popped early," Wasserman said. "It's also difficult to ignore numbers like just 14 made baskets at the rim in 15 games. The lack of burst and quickness for a ball-handler is concerning, but the live-dribble passing and pull-up shooting may be good enough for Carrington to compensate."

Carrington had been earning first-round buzz earlier in the season but as the level of competition has taken a step up, his numbers have taken a step back.

He's averaging 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and just 3.5 assists to 2.5 turnovers per game while shooting 40% from the field and 31% from 3-point range over his last four games,  all against ACC opponents and three of which have been losses for Pitt.

Carrington has been one of the best at his age in the conference, winning ACC Rookie of the Week four times during a season that is just 10 weeks old. While there is some obvious room for improvement, Carrington's natural talent and feel for the game have made him an attractive candidate for the NBA Draft nonetheless.
