Report: Pitt Shows Interest in Transfer G from Georgia Tech

The Pitt Panthers are looking into adding another guard through the transfer portal.

PITTSBURGH -- After missing out on sharp-shooting lead guard Noah Thomasson, a transfer from Niagra, the Pitt Panthers are exploring other options in the transfer portal to fill some of the open minutes they have in the backcourt.

One of those guards Pitt is looking into is Georgia Tech transfer Deivon Smith, a 6'1 and 176-pound guard from Loganville, Georgia who began his career at Mississippi State. He's also heard from Utah, Florida, BYU, Ole Miss and others since entering the portal according to George Michalowski of The Portal Report and Pittsburgh Sports Now, who first reported the news.

Smith was a reserve guard for the Yellow Jackets last season, but still played significant minutes. In 24 games and 13 starts, Smith averaged eight points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while making 26% of his 3-point shots and 44% of his 2-pointers. He's a tremendous athlete with the ability to defend multiple positions and rebound well for his size.

The Panthers have two open scholarships remaining after adding High Point transfer Zack Austin and Rhode Island transfer Ishmael Leggett this spring.
