More Pitt Panthers Earn Midseason All-American Honors

Israel Abanikanda is the latest Pitt Panther to get a nod as an All-American.

PITTSBURGH -- With half of the season now done, many college football publications from around the country are making midseason award selections. Pro Football Focus released their midseason All-American teams this week and three Pitt Panthers made the cut.

Safety Erick Hallett and defensive lineman Calijah Kancey, who earned All-American honors from The Athletic earlier this week, made the second team and running back Israel Abanikanda was an honorable mention.

Hallett has turned into one of the most opportunistic defensive players in the country during his senior season. Through six games Hallett has recorded three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and six pass breakups.

Kancey is on pace for the most productive season of his career at Pitt. Kancey currently leads the Panthers in tackles for loss (8.5) and quarterback hurries (six), while sitting at second in sacks (three) and his average of 1.4 TFLs per contest ranks 17th nationally.

A record-setting performance against Virginia Tech has vaulted Abanikanda among the national leaders in rushing yards, all-purpose yards and touchdowns scored. His 830 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns are far and away the best totals in the ACC.
