Pitt Football DL Calijah Kancey Lands on Nagurski Trophy Watch List

Another day, another preseason award watch list drops and it features Pitt's best defensive tackle.

PITTSBURGH -- Calijah Kancey is a contender for yet another prestigious college football award. The Charlotte Touchdown Club revealed its Bronko Nagurski Trophy preseason watch list on Tuesday morning and Kancey was the lone representative from Pitt to make the cut. The Nagurski Trophy is given to the best defensive player in college football.

Kancey has already been named a preseason All-ACC and All-American honoree by various outlets and a contender for the Outland Trophy, awarded to the best lineman in college football.

Following a first team All-ACC season in 2021, during which he led the Panthers in tackles for loss and finished second in sacks. He anchors a Pitt front seven that has been among the most productive in America in recent years.

Aaron Donald is the only Pitt player to have ever won the award and he took home the honor in 2013.
