Pitt Lands JUCO TE Karter Johnson
PITTSBURGH -- Pitt Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi fired off a Pat Signal on Thursday afternoon, but the identity of the latest player commitment didn't come until Friday, when Butler Community College transfer Karter Johnson announced that he was the unnamed player.
Butler had committed to Coastal Carolina earlier this month, but decommitted and accepted an offer from the Panthers on Friday.
Johnson, a 6-foot-2 tight end, began his career at TCU. He committed to the Horned Frogs in 2019 but as a four-star defensive lineman, not a tight end. After riding the bench for most of that season, he transferred to Butler, a junior college in Kansas. Johnson then dropped 70 pounds and changed positions.
He played for two seasons at Butler and appeared in 13 total games. Over that time, he caught 22 passes for 293 yards and four touchdowns. Johnson is the 18th member of the 2022 class and has three years of eligibility remaining.
He joins a Pitt tight ends group that is led by All-ACC Honorable Mention Gavin Bartholomew, who is just a sophomore.
