Former Pitt LB Chase Pine Receives Tryout Invite from Steelers

The former Pittsburgh Panthers LB is going to work out next door.

PITTSBURGH -- A former Pitt Panther linebacker is getting a shot at the NFL after going undrafted in last month's NFL Draft. Chase Pine, who attended Pitt for six years and was a standout player for five after redshirting in 2016, received an invite to the Pittsburgh Steelers' rookie minicamp.

Pine appeared in 58 games over the course of his career, amassing 118 total tackles, 14 of them for a loss, and four passes defended. He appeared in all 13 games for the 2021 ACC Champion Panthers as a reserve linebacker.

One of Pine's former teammates, wide receiver Tre Tipton, also received an invite to rookie minicamp in April. He'll join Pine at the Steelers' facility on the South Side this weekend.

Minicamp begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
