Pat Narduzzi Updates Pitt Spring Scrimmages

The Pitt Panthers spring scrimmages are hitting their peak.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers are four weeks into spring practices, and with a few scrimmages behind them, head coach Pat Narduzzi took some time to reflect on the latest matchup between the offense and the defense.

As of now, Narduzzi said it's "hard to tell" which side of the ball is ahead overall. This past weekend, the defense walked away victorious, and are rocking the blue jerseys - the signs of the winners - at practices.

"What stood out is that guys are making plays," Narduzzi said. "Positive guys making plays, but sometimes, they're not doing it the right way. You could make it a play, but if you're not doing it the right way. A lot of the details need cleaned up."

Narduzzi said the defense came up with a few turnovers in the scrimmage, but the offense was also taking a different approach during the game.

"Coach [Frank] Cignetti isn't game-planning. I remember a year ago, he ran like four plays of the same play, four in a row. Listening to him in the headset, he's like, 'I want to get this play on tape against four different defense.' ... He wants to get plays in, which I get."

The Panthers are finishing up this week before preparing for their final matchup in the Spring Game on April 15. So far, the defense has impressed, but the offense is clicking well and establishing their starting quarterback in Phil Jurkovec.
