PITTSBURGH -- The end of fall training camp brought good news for walk-on wide receiver Gavin Thomson, who learned that he's been put on scholarship this morning during a team meeting prior to the team's "rehearsal scrimmage". Pitt Panthers offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Tweeted the news.

Thomson has impressed his Pitt coaches throughout training camp, working with the team's top group of receivers. He joined the program as a walk-on in 2019 and redshirted. He appeared in five games primarily as a special teamer during the 2020 season and caught a pair of passes for 12 yards in the season opener vs. Austin Peay. He played in six more games last year as a reserve wideout.
