New Win Total Line for Pitt Released

Oddsmakers continue to be skeptical about the Pitt Panthers.

PITTSBURGH -- Oddsmakers are skeptical about the Pitt Panthers heading into the 2023 season and have not set lofty expectations for them with kickoff still months away.

Betonline.ag has set the Panthers' line right on the edge of bowl eligibility at 6.5 victories, with even odds at -115 for both the over and the under. Five ACC teams - Lousiville, Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina and Miami - have higher win total lines.

Pitt also has the seventh-best odds of winning the ACC this coming season at +2200. The Panthers trail Florida State (+160), Clemson (+190), North Carolina (+600), Louisville (+1000), NC State (+1200), and Miami (+1800).

Winning the national title is an even longer shot for the Panthers, who have +27500 odds of winning the whole thing, tied for 45th in the country with Iowa State, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Syracuse. Six squads from in their conference - Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, NC State, Lousiville and Miami - have better odds of hoisting the trophy at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas next January.

While some Pitt fans and maybe even players might take this as a slight after the Panthers have won 20 games over the past two seasons, there are reasonable concerns about some of the moving parts that resulted from roster turnover. They will be breaking in a new quarterback and covering for the loss of their top running back, leading receiver, two best offensive linemen, both starting safeties, leading tackler from the past two seasons and four starting defensive linemen all at the same time.
