Pitt Not Expecting Bub Carrington to Transfer

The Pitt Panthers believe they'll only be competing with the NBA to keep Bub Carrington in Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH -- Pitt Panthers star freshman Bub Carrington declared following an ACC Tournament loss to North Carolina - one that proved to be their final contest of the season - that he planned on returning to Pittsburgh for his sophomore season in blue and gold.

There will be plenty of interested parties looking to pull Carrington away from the school he committed to coming out of high school. But Pitt head coach Jeff Capel believes the only competition his program will have in re-recruiting Carrington this offseason is the NBA, not the transfer portal, he said during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan.

Carrington is a bonafide professional prospect with the kind of size and skill set that make NBA teams see a potential star. But some inconsistent shooting held Carrington could back from being a surefire lottery pick this season. Still, he's good enough to make testing the NBA Draft waters, while retaining his college eligibility, worth it.

Carrington averaged 13.5 points per game on 41.2% shooting from the field and 4.2 assists to just 1.9 turnovers while starting all of Pitt's 33 games this season. He led the Panthers with 24 points on 9-17 shooting from the field and 4-8 shooting from 3-point range in the loss to North Carolina.
