Barry Odom Speaks on Importance of Purdue's Revenue Streams to Football Program

In this story:
Purdue head coach Barry Odom has spoken multiple times this summer about the importance of finding new revenue streams for the football program and athletic department moving forward. He's grateful for everything he's been given, but he also understands that the process never ends.
Odom joined The Fan Morning Show in Indianapolis this week and was asked about Purdue's operating budget. Specifically, the second-year head coach was asked whether the program is one of the Power Four teams under $20 million for the upcoming season, as referenced in an article by 247Sports.
"I don't know the accuracy of that exact number that you're speaking of, but I'm thankful for the rev share amount and what Purdue has done," Odom said. "You've always got to find ways to increase that number."
Certainly, having access to more money would be a major benefit for Purdue's football program moving forward. It would help the Boilermakers recruit more aggressively out of the transfer portal and would provide more incentive for some of the team's top talent to return in future seasons.
Much of that responsibility will fall on new athletic director Tommy McClelland, who spoke a lot about finding innovative ways to generate revenue moving forward. But Odom is committed to helping in any way he can in order to help move his program forward.
"You look at how rosters are built, and then you look at how they're retained, and that's such a huge part for us," he said. "You're striving for more, and we've got to continue to find ways to generate that for Purdue, and certainly I'll do anything I can to help us out in that way."
Purdue secured sponsorship for 2026 season

McClelland secured his first major victory as Purdue's athletic director earlier this week, as the school announced a partnership with Progressive. Although specific details were not provided, Purdue is one of 13 schools to reach an agreement with the insurance company, which was brokered by Learfield.
The Progressive logo will appear on Rohrman Field at Ross-Ade Stadium for the 2026 season, and it will appear on other signage throughout the stadium and on the video screen. It was an opportunity for Purdue to secure a significant sponsor for the upcoming season.
While some schools have reached sponsorship agreements via jersey patches, that's one opportunity Purdue hasn't secured at this time. That has also become a popular way for college football teams to generate additional revenue streams.
Purdue will hit the field to open the 2026 college football season on Friday, Sept. 4, hosting Indiana State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
