Mark Kingston's team had some late-game heroics in game one of a doubleheader against the Tennessee Volunteers late on Saturday afternoon, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away from their SEC East counterpart. In game two later in the day, South Carolina reverted back to their ways which has lost them their last three conference series, going quiet at the plate and allowing too many extra base hits to their opponent, dropping their final game of the regular season 12-1.

In the first three innings of the contest, things remained quiet as both teams went scoreless while trying to feel out the tendencies of each starting pitcher. In the fourth inning, however, things would take a turn for the worse for Gamecock starter Matthew Becker in the fourth inning, as a grounder eaten up by Talmadge LeCroy would be followed up by two singles, another recorded error and a double would score four Volunteer runs, giving Tennessee a lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

Cole Messina would respond with a solo homer to start the bottom of the fourth inning, which was then followed up by an Ethan Petry hit single, but the Gamecocks were unable to string together more hits to create another rally like they had in game two. Tennessee would go on to score eight more runs include a six-run seventh inning to blowout South Carolina, and leave Gamecock fans with most sour taste in their mouth possible in what could be the final game in Founders Park for the 2023 season.
