The hitting struggles for South Carolina's baseball team continued on Saturday as they drop their opening SEC series to the Ole Miss Rebels.

The hitting struggles for South Carolina's baseball team continued on Saturday as they drop their opening SEC series to the Ole Miss Rebels.

Kennedy Jones and the Gamecocks got a runner in scoring position right off the bat with his leadoff double, but South Carolina continued to struggle with runners in scoring position. The next three batters struck out, leaving Jones stranded. Ole Miss also got its own leadoff double and capitalized on it to take the early 1-0 lead in the first inning.

The Rebels would strike again at the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run, increasing their lead. It would only last a short time before Ethan Petry came up the next inning and had a home run of his own, getting the lead back to one. Kennedy Jones continued his hot streak, getting his third hit of the game in the top of the fifth, hitting a two-run blast to bring in Gavin Casas after a leadoff single, giving South Carolina its first lead of the game, 3-2.

The lead would be short-lived as Ole Miss got two solo home runs in the fifth to retake the lead 4-3. Ty Good gave Carolina a great 2.1 innings with five strikeouts, keeping them in the game and holding Ole Miss at bay. The Gamecocks would have another chance to get the game back to even or possibly take the lead, having two runners on with no outs again in the game, but they couldn't get it done in the eighth inning.

The story of the game and the series has been that one team can capitalize, and the other can't. The Rebels have done just that and all but put the game away in the eighth as they got two runs in after back-to-back walks, but they weren't done there after a three-run blast and a couple of singles, Ole Miss puts up a eight-spot in the eighth inning.
