Heading into year three of the Shane Beamer era here in Columbia, South Carolina is finding themselves with fewer question marks on their roster, a credit to how well Beamer and his staff have recruited across the board. In the modern era of college football, however, high-level recruiting at times can be offset by a roster exodus into the transfer portal, something the Gamecocks dealt with this past season.

That exodus, as mentioned earlier, witnessed defensive ends Jordan Burch and Gilber Edmond transfer elsewhere. While the Gamecocks added Jatius Geer to help offset those losses, questions remain about the proven depth of the position. Having Jordan Strachan return from his ACL tear he suffered last year could help if he's back to 100 percent. His position coach, Sterling Lucas, told the media this past Thursday that Strachan "looks better than what he did before he got injured last year."

Speaking to the media later that same morning, Jordan pointed to his previous ACL tear as something that's helped him not just get his body ready for his return to the field but also his mind.

"Going through this before and being successful [in rehab] has actually sped up the process. So I don't sit there and dwell too much on the mental side," Strachan explained. "Mentally, I'm back. Physically, I'm back."

Strachan isn't the only one who feels he's back, as fellow teammate Tyreek Johnson believes Jordan is looking like his old self again.

"To me, he looks great, he looks normal, he looks like he's 100 percent," Johnson said. "Every day he comes out here and practices and grinds, and he's out there making plays. So from my perspective, he looks great. He looks exactly how he looked when he first got here."

If Strachan plays at all as he did at the beginning of this past Fall, it will be a tremendous boost for a Gamecock pass rush looking to improve on its somewhat lackluster numbers from 2022.
