Regarding the national media space in College Football, few events or television broadcasts draw more attention than College Gameday, ESPN's premiere morning show for college football that airs every Saturday in the Fall. For teams that make an appearance on the show, like South Carolina will in week one when they take on North Carolina, it's an ode to where their program currently stands in the sport. Considering where the Gamecocks were two years ago, that's not something that's lost on Shane Beamer.

"It's a great statement about where we've come. I was just telling somebody earlier today [that] two years ago at this time was about the same time a national media member made the statement that the ceiling for the 2021 team was two wins," Beamer said after his Birdies With Beamer charity event on Wednesday. "To go from that where we were picked sixth or seventh in the SEC East my first season to now, you have College Gameday coming, two really good teams in the season opener, it makes a great statement about the progress we've made and some of the things that we've accomplished."

While Beamer has never shied away from "keeping receipts" regarding any doubt prominent media members spout regarding his team, he also strongly believes in keeping his team grounded and reminding them that while they've accomplished a lot, there are still plenty of hurdles to jump. It's a sentiment that Shane has conveyed multiple times this offseason, and he did so once again when speaking to the media on Wednesday afternoon.

"We also know that we're nowhere near being where we're gonna go, and there's a lot more that we could do in this program and are gonna continue to do as we build this program and move it forward."

Beamer's persistence in trying to keep complacency from settling into the building is a trait reminiscent of some of the greatest coaches in the sport right now: Nick Saban and Kirby Smart, the latter of whom Beamer coached under from 2016 to 2018 at Georgia. Still, having the Gamecocks be a prominent figure on the first College Gameday in 2023 is a massive moment for Shane and the program and an excellent opportunity to spread their brand to more people nationwide.
