The South Carolina Gamecocks took the practice field for the first time in over three months as they kicked off the third Spring Practice of the Shane Beamer era. It was a practice involving many new additions suiting up for the first time in garnet and black threads, along with some veterans who, based on early sightings, could be heavily leaned on to help the program take another step forward in 2023.

Not long after practice concluded, Shane Beamer met with the local media to recap practice and where the team currently stood on its trek toward the 2023 season. He began by stating that things from a procedural standpoint were highly efficient for a first practice back, especially compared to what coaches are used to seeing after a long sabbatical from the field. He also noted that no significant injuries took place as well.

Beamer also emphasized that there's no official depth chart for the Spring and that besides some experienced veterans taking first-team reps, the staff wants competition at every position on the football field. Former Gamecock running back Lovasea Carroll was spotted helping the offensive skill players on Tuesday morning, a positive development after the Georgia native recently announced his retirement from the sport due to a medical diagnosis

"Hate it for him," Beamer stated on the situation. "He's handled it great, [it'd] be very easy for a lot of guys to just disappear and go into a shell. I don't think he's missed a single workout, team activity, anything since he found out that he wasn't going to be able to play… I want him involved in everything that he can be."

Two other players in Mohamed Kaba and Jordan Strachan were also spotted on the field, a good sign considering they both tore an ACL just six months ago. Still, Coach Beamer said those two, along with defensive back David Spaulding, aren't expected to "[Go] full-speed before the end of Spring practice," but he's optimistic they'll each progress over time.

One last player whose current status is up in the air for different reasons is running back Dante Miller, whose request for an extra year of eligibility is under review by the NCAA.

"It's something that we're still working on to get a final determination on," Beamer explained. "We're going through the process right now, [and] nothing has been one-hundred percent resolved."
