Ever since Spencer Rattler joined Oklahoma's Football program back in 2019, critics haven't been afraid to voice their opinion on the Arizona native. Some stick strictly to his boom-or-bust play on the field, but others, despite not knowing the Gamecocks' star quarterback in any way, shape or form, constantly take personal shots at Rattler's character. The latter group uses essentially two different pieces of "evidence" to back up their claims; Rattler's appearance on the streaming series QB1 back when he was in high school and a bunch of unsubstantiated rumors about how he was in the locker room when he announced he was transferring from Oklahoma back in late 2021.

Rattler himself has stated in the past that he has changed since his appearance on QB1 from five to six years ago, but his detractors still cling to that one small stretch of his life as supposed undeniable proof that Spencer only cares about Spencer. This past Thursday at South Carolina's Media Day event, tight end Trey Knox, who transferred from Arkansas last December, was asked where his chemistry was at with Rattler and what kind of role he envisioned having this Fall. Knox took this question as an opportunity to address the longstanding negative perception that certain football fans and people have had about the former preseason Heisman favorite.

"I just wanna be that security blanket for No. 7," Knox started. "He's a great dude, and he gets this conception about him that he's not a good person. I mean he's one of the best people I've ever met. [He's] really down to earth, and he just wants to be good, and I respect him so much. He grinds his butt off, comes to practice [and] workouts every day to get better, and he wants to be coached hard, and you gotta love dudes that come in and bring that business mindset," Trey lamented. "He's embraced it, he's embraced this offense, and I think he's very confident, and he's poised to have a big season."

While some of the crowd will say that this is just "player speak" from Trey, it should be noted once again that Knox has only been in Columbia and around Spencer for a little over seven months now. If Rattler and Knox can build a solid rapport this coming season, it could make South Carolina's passing game that much more dangerous than it already is.
