REPORT: Gamecock MBB Transfer Meechie Johnson Contacted By Several SEC Programs

One week ago, Meechie Johnson shocked South Carolina men's basketball fans when he announced that he was entering the transfer portal. The news came largely as a surprise due to the role that Johnson had played in the Gamecocks' ascension over the past two seasons and his public statements about his close relationship with head coach Lamont Paris, a fellow Ohio native who had convinced Meechie to come to Columbia not long after he was hired.

With some time having now passed, programs have had the chance to reach out to the rising 5th-year senior. Per On3 Sports' Joe Tipton, the home-state Ohio State Buckeyes have reached out to Johnson, along with three SEC programs: the Kentucky Wildcats, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Texas A&M Aggies. All of these programs went through some bumps in the road this past Winter, with Kentucky getting bounced in the first round of the NCAA Tournament while all of the other programs failed to make the big dance altogether, with Ohio State firing their head coach in the process.
