LaNorris Sellers Talks Expectations For Himself, Comfort Level In Second Offseason With South Carolina

After watching Spencer Rattler, arguably the most talented quarterback to ever dawn garnet and black colored threads, start behind center for the South Carolina Gamecocks each of the last two seasons, Shane Beamer and his team are now in search of their next starting quarterback as they progress through Spring practice. The favorite in the minds of many to land the job is redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers, who wowed fans with several highlight-reel type plays in 2023 and joined the program last offseason as one of the most-hyped high school quarterback signees we'd seen in a long time.

While high expectations from outside observers can add pressure to many athletes, Sellers isn't one to run from them. In fact, when talking to the media on Monday afternoon, he made it clear that he sets a bar for himself every time he's on the field.

“I try not to make the same mistake twice, so I try to keep learning, making new mistakes as [Dowell Loggains] would say," LaNorris explained. "Just not [doing] the same thing and keep going backwards. Just make new mistakes and basically learn from them and keep going forward."

As with everything in life, the best way to learn is through experience, and when you play one of the toughest positions in all of team sports in the best conference at the collegiate level, that notion especially rings true, as Sellers indicated when asked about how this offseason has compared to last year's.

“I’m a lot more comfortable. Last year was kinda fast-paced; everything was kinda going like ‘woosh, woosh, whoosh.’ I knew the stuff but we’d get out there on the field and it was my first time seeing it [at] SEC speed. You’re lost, but now I’ve got it now; I know everything now. So it’s a lot easier for me.”
