BREAKING: Ryan Montgomery Announces His College Decision

South Carolina's football staff suffered a tremendous blow on the recruiting trail on Wednesday afternoon when their top quarterback target, Ryan Montgomery, announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs. Assuming this commitment sticks throughout the rest of the cycle, the loss stings for several reasons: how it unfolded in the end and what it means for Dowell Loggains' target board moving forward in this cycle.

Beginning with the end result, the Georgia Bulldogs were mainly viewed as the third-place team in this recruitment for the longest time, with South Carolina and Florida battling at the top spot. However, after some other recruitments did not go their way, it appears that Georgia increased their efforts in recent weeks, and considering their current status, Ryan and his family just couldn't ignore it. Regarding remaining targets, it's unknown where the Gamecocks will go from here, with other offered quarterbacks like Deuce Knight and Will Wilson being committed elsewhere while local product AJ Brand is viewed as more of an athlete that could play multiple positions at the next level.

Carolina's best hope moving forward might be to stay on Montgomery and try to convince him that he'll have a better chance of accomplishing his personal goals at the next level in Columbia, but considering the timing of these recent events, the likelihood of that happening seems drastically low.
