In this story:

If you look around at the faces on Stanford's roster for the 2023 season and compare it to this past season, there will be a ton of new ones to learn.

Unlike this past season that saw Stanford return one of the most experienced teams in the country, in 2023, Stanford will be home to least experienced team in the Power 5. This means there will be a lot of backups from this past season getting thrust into starting roles, and also means that incoming freshmen have a chance to play right away.

Now, under the last regime, freshman seeing the field immediately wasn't a commonality. Whether new head coach Troy Taylor, who spoke with us at All Cardinal on Wednesday, is more or less willing to do so, he doesn't have much choice. The Cardinal are so thin at some positions, it would be shocking if a freshman doesn't get the chance to start.

One incoming freshman that has been pretty much been inked in as a starter before even getting to campus, is four-star defensive back Jshawn Frausto-Ramos. The St. John Bosco product was highlighted by The Athletic's Grace Raynor as the defensive recruit who will make biggest impact in 2023 in the Pac-12. Raynor spoke highly of Frausto-Ramos, while also giving credit to Colorado's Cormani McClain saying:

McClain is probably the right pick, but to mix it up, I’ll take Stanford cornerback Jshawn Frausto-Ramos. Frausto-Ramos isn’t necessarily a flashy pick, coming in as the nation’s No. 414 prospect and No. 43 corner in the 247Sports Composite, but he plays an area of need for the Cardinal. Stanford had four cornerbacks play in double-digit games in 2022: Kyu Blu Kelly, Ethan Bonner, Salim Turner-Muhammad and Nicolas Toomer. Kelly declared for the NFL Draft, Turner-Muhammad transferred to Purdue and Toomer transferred to Indiana. Bonner returns, but there’s room for young players to step up if they’re ready. Frausto-Ramos played at the highest level of high school football, winning a national championship with St. John Bosco in Southern California.

While being thrust into the fire against what can be considered the best quarterback conference in the country isn't ideal as a true freshman, Frausto-Ramos has a chance to learn first hand in order to help him succeed down the road.  The lack of expeirnce on the Stanford roster in hindsight just means more experience for guys who need it moving forward.
