Holmon Wiggins Praises New Texas A&M Transfer: 'Our Kind of Guy'

The Texas A&M Aggies will need to rebuild parts of their roster, and one incoming transfer could play a significant role

In this story:

The Texas A&M Aggies had one of their most successful seasons in program history last year, fighting for a spot in the SEC Tournament and earning their first College Football Playoff berth.

That was largely thanks to a veteran roster filled with experience and NFL-ready talent. Now those players are gone, though, and head coach Mike Elko turned to the transfer portal to replace that production ahead of the 2026 season.

One of those contributors now and who has played a big role this spring, according to offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins, is Alabama Crimson Tide transfer Wilkin Formby, who has been a critical addition to the offensive line.

What It's Supposed to Look Like

With the Aggies' success last season, the offense benefited from an offensive line littered with veterans who had plenty of experience and were accustomed to the SEC gauntlet and the talent they would face. Now with many of them departing, bringing in production wouldn't be easy, but when Formby hit the portal, it seemed like a perfect match between the two camps.

"I was at the University of Alabama when we recruited him," Wiggins says of his connection with Formby. "So when we heard word that he was transferring, coach Kush asked me what I thought about the kid, I was like he's our kind of guy."

Formby spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa, with last season his most productive. He started 14 games and played in all 15, rotating between right tackle and right guard. He allowed just three sacks on the season and only eight quarterback hurries, and in many games did not allow a sack or a quarterback hurry, despite playing some of the best talent that college football has to offer.

"He's done a phenomenal job since he stepped foot on campus," Wiggins continues on about the impact that Formby has had in College Station. "He has a ton of experience, some leadership qualities. He's big, he's athletic, he's strong, he can bend and he can anchor. So it's really good to have a guy like that."

With the Aggies needing experience and needing to build up a young offensive line group that will undoubtedly contribute in the near future, having a player of the stature of Formby will not only allow the offense to have an anchor of production, but a second coach on the field who can help steady the ship in times of turbulence.
