How Texas A&M Has Performed Historically Against Every 2026 Opponent

What can history tell us about the Texas A&M Aggies and their schedule for the 2026 college football season?

In this story:

Since joining the SEC in 2012, the Texas A&M Aggies have averaged just over eight wins per season. The 2025 season was the Aggies’ best, with an 11–1 regular-season record and the program’s first seven-win season in SEC play.

The competition will be even tougher in 2026. The SEC is switching to a nine-game conference schedule, and the Aggies have only had two seasons with a sub-.500 records in conference play since joining. Can recent history provide any indication of how Texas A&M will perform in 2026?

Missouri State

The Missouri Tigers joined the SEC in 2012 alongside Texas A&M, but their counterpart in the Show Me State, the Missouri State Bears, have never played the Aggies in football. The Bears have given the Aggies trouble before — Texas A&M was upset by Missouri State in men’s college basketball in November 2013.

Could Missouri State upset Texas A&M in Week 1? It’s possible, but the Aggies have handled business against non-Power Four opponents under head coach Mike Elko. Over the last two seasons, their average margin of victory has been +28.5.

The last time Texas A&M lost to a non-power conference opponent was in 2022, when the team was upset by the Appalachian State Mountaineers in College Station, Texas. Missouri State, meanwhile, climbed from FCS to FBS last season.

Arizona State

These two programs have met once before in 2015. Texas A&M and Arizona State played at NRG Stadium in Houston in Week 1 as part of the Texas Kickoff.

The Aggies emerged victorious despite the Sun Devils being ranked No. 15 at the time. Texas A&M won 38–17 behind the combined effort of future NFL quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray. Allen started the game and was benched in favor of Murray, but he returned to finish the game.

Christian Kirk also had two massive touchdowns: a 79-yard punt return and a 66-yard pass from Allen. The Aggies jumped inside the top 20 after the win despite entering the season unranked.

Kentucky

Despite sharing a conference for nearly a decade and a half, Texas A&M has only played Kentucky three times in football — and two of the games were in the 1950s. The Aggies lead the all-time series 2–1.

The only SEC gridiron contest between the Aggies and the Wildcats came in October 2018, a thriller that went into overtime and ended in a win for the home team. Texas A&M walked it off in OT with a rushing score from running back Trayveon Williams, who had 138 yards on the night.

Tight end Jace Sternberger had 93 receiving yards, and quarterback Kellen Mond threw for 226 yards, but both teams played sloppy football. Kentucky punted 10 times, and there were a combined six fumbles. Kentucky recovered one Texas A&M fumble for a touchdown.

LSU

The Aggies return to Death Valley to play the LSU Tigers for the 14th time in as many seasons. The two programs have developed a strong rivalry over that time. Texas A&M has won five of the last eight, while the series is tied 5–5 since the Aggies joined the SEC … with an asterisk.

LSU won the first four games against the SEC’s newcomers, but the NCAA vacated those wins due to violations involving impermissible benefits. This leaves the series split at five apiece, rather than a 9–5 lead for LSU.

The all-time series sides with the Tigers. LSU holds a 35–22–3 advantage, according to 12thman.com, which excludes games before 1913 and includes the games from the four vacated seasons. Last season's victory in Baton Rouge, La., was the Aggies' first since 1994. This season, LSU will be led by head coach Lane Kiffin, whom Texas A&M has been familiar with for a while.

Arkansas

The rivalry between Texas A&M and Arkansas is deeply rooted in history. Between 1934 and 1991, the programs played every season, but when the Razorbacks left the Southwest Conference, there was a nearly three-decade hiatus.

Since 2009, the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium has hosted nearly every matchup. The two sides shared a home-and-home series in 2012 and 2013 and again for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, with last season’s matchup in Fayetteville, Ark. Kyle Field was also the host during the COVID-19–abbreviated 2020 season.

Few head-to-head records have a wider discrepancy between the historical record and recent history. Arkansas leads the series 41–37–3, but since the rivalry was renewed, Texas A&M has a decisive 13–4 advantage.

Missouri

Like Kentucky, Missouri was historically on the other side of the SEC. However, Mizzou joined the SEC from the Big 12 the same season as Texas A&M, adding some history between the two programs.

The Tigers and Aggies have only played 18 times. Sixteen have been since 1990, and 14 were after Texas A&M joined the Big 12 following the Southwest Conference’s dissolution. The Aggies lead 11–7 and are riding a three-game winning streak, but it is a 7–7 tie between Big 12 and SEC action.

Mizzou was ranked in each of the last two matchups, both resulting in decisive victories for A&M. The average margin of victory during the Aggies’ winning streak has been 24.3 points. Head coach Eliah Drinkwitz is 0–3 in the series.

The Citadel

The Citadel is a military college in South Carolina, familiar to college football fans. The Bulldogs regularly play non-conference games against schools in the Southeast, including against Ole Miss in 2025, Alabama in 2018 and multiple contests with Clemson.

Texas A&M has played The Citadel once before in 2006, a 35–3 victory at Kyle Field. The Bulldogs have an 8–51 record against FBS opponents, including a win over Georgia Tech in 2019 and No. 25 South Carolina in 2015.

Alabama

Texas A&M has two notable victories over the Nick Saban-led Alabama teams, including wins from quarterbacks Johnny Manziel and Zach Calzada. In both seasons, 2012 and 2021, respectively, the Crimson Tide were the No. 1-ranked team in the country.

However, those mark the Aggies’ only victories against the Tide since joining the SEC. This does not yet include any matchups since Kalen DeBoer took over as head coach after Saban, who retired following the 2023 season.

The record is 13–3 for Alabama, and the Crimson Tide leads 10–2 after the Aggies joined the SEC. The two sides have not played since 2023, though Alabama holds a two-game winning streak.

South Carolina

There is not much history between these two programs, but they have become familiar in recent seasons. Texas A&M never played South Carolina before joining the SEC, but they have played every year since 2014, and the series has been lopsided.

Texas A&M has a 10–2 lead, though South Carolina recorded wins in 2024 and 2022 with Shane Beamer. In recent years, the games have been wild and unpredictable, with the Aggies overcoming a 30–3 halftime deficit at home last season.

Five of the last seven games have been decided by multiple possessions, but the venue has recently been a key indicator. Since Beamer took over in 2021, the Gamecocks have not lost to the Aggies in Columbia, S.C., and they host again in 2026.

Tennessee

Another team that has not been a common conference opponent is Tennessee. The Volunteers were on the other side of the SEC, but the Aggies have not played them since 2023, the last season the SEC had divisions.

Tennessee has a 3–2 all-time lead over Texas A&M; since the two started sharing a conference, the record is 2–1 to the Aggies. Texas A&M is 1–0 at home and 1–1 on the road, with the 1957 and 2004 contests being neutral-site bowl games.

Kyle Field will be the site in 2026; the last time Tennessee was in College Station was in 2016. The game ended in a thrilling 45–38 double-overtime victory for the Aggies, which could have been sealed in regulation. Williams fumbled right at the goal line on a 71-yard run.

Oklahoma

It has been too long since Texas A&M played Oklahoma. The two teams last faced off in the 2012 Cotton Bowl, and like the rivalry with Texas, have not played a conference game since 2011. The Sooners and Aggies played for 17 straight seasons before the maroon and white left the Big 12.

The old series can be restored, and the Aggies will return to Norman, Okla., a city Texas A&M has not won in since 1997. In fact, the Aggies are 1–14 in Norman.

During the Big 12 era, OU led the series 11–6. The historical record is 18–9 for the Sooners, or 19–12, including three games from before World War I. The slate starts clean in the SEC, and the Aggies can extend their winning streak to two.

Texas

The rivalry is back, and arguably no game is more important on the Aggies’ calendar than their last. The historic Lone Star Showdown is a headliner for the SEC during rivalry week and has become a staple for entertainment on Black Friday.

Before A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC, the series was annual from 1915 to 2011. Texas is currently riding a three-game winning streak, dating back to the final Big 12 matchup in 2011.

Historically, Texas has dominated the matchup. The Longhorns lead the series 63–33–3, or 78–37–5 when including games before 1915. The Aggies’ best stretch came from 1983 to 1994, when Texas A&M had a 10–1 run over Texas.

This season’s matchup will be in Kyle Field, which has proven to be an important factor in the rivalry. The series record is much closer in College Station, with the Longhorns holding a narrow 27–21–2 lead in Aggieland — a big improvement for the Aggies from the 36–12–1 record in Austin, Texas.
