No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies Complete Sweep of No. 6 Vanderbilt Commodores

The Texas A&M Aggies completed a three-game sweep of the Vanderbilt Commodores behind a six-run inning in Game 3 on Sunday.

The No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies beat the No. 6 Vanderbilt Commodores 12-6 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

Reliever Chris Cortez was dominant from the mound and the Aggies (32-4, 11-4 SEC) smashed a six-run fifth inning to push A&M to victory.

Cortez went 4.1 scorless innings in releif and tied a career-high with eight strikeouts. Evan Aschenbeck got the save with two runs over three innings.

Gavin Grahovac led the offense for the Aggies going 3-for-4 form the plate with a season-high four runs scored. The freshman also hit a home run and posted two RBIs. Jace LaViolette chipped in two RBIs on a 2-for-4 multi-hit perforomance.

Vandy (26-10, 8-7 SEC) finally got on the board in Game 3 after being shut out 24-0 over the first two games, including a run-rule 15-0 loss in Game 1 on Friday. The Commodores posted four runs on four hits in the second inning, snapping a 24-inning scoreless streak for the Texas A&M pitching staff.

The Aggies cut Vandy's lead in half in the next frame with two runs, then loaded the bases but could not plate anothe run in the inning.

The Aggies' offense went off in the fifth inning with six runs on four hits for an 8-4 lead, then added another run in the sixth on a wild pitch allowing Grahovac to score from third.

Vanderbilt inched closer in the eight with a solo shot and threatened for more with runners at the corners and just one out, but Aschenbeck got two flyouts to end the threat.

The Aggies got three more in the eighth before allowing a Vandy solo homer in the ninth for a 12-6 victory and a three-game sweep of the No. 6 team in the country.

Next, the Aggies will face Air Force on Tuesday as they wrap up their five-game homestand at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT on SEC Network Plus.
