Texas A&M Has One Major Question To Answer Before Marcel Reed Can Take Next Step

In this story:
Most of the offseason, the chatter hasn't stopped about what the Texas A&M offensive line will look like, and it's a major question going into the 2026-27 campaign.
Part of the success that will take quarterback Marcel Reed to where he needs to be this season will rely on what that offensive line does in live action and whether it can come together to protect him.
If that offensive line can figure out quickly how to block members of the opposing defense and stop rushers and open up the gaps on the line of scrimmage, it opens up an abundance of other things this offense is capable of, like feeding the running backs and hitting the wide receivers in the chest.
“Our goal is to make sure coming out of fall camp, we have an offensive line that is ready to cohesively function together and play at the level we need them to play to go be successful,” Elko said. “And you know, whether we get that done week one, two, three, that's got to happen as quick as it possibly can.”
Offensive Line Outlook

What the Aggies had to do this offseason to replace production on the offensive line was find men who could fill the shoes of the four starters who left the program, and now it's the next-man-up mentality.
No one knows what that starting five will look like on the depth chart, and Elko likely won’t share it until he is ready, but it is one of the most intriguing storylines to keep an eye out for, as that could really fall on Reed’s success.
Only one starter is back, and it is Mark Nabou Jr, who is now the leader and voice of this group. Who he will play beside remains to be seen, but he's expected to face high competition and protect Reed as best as possible while proudly representing the Maroon Goons.
With four open slots on that line, it features plenty of big bodies that can move at a fast pace and open up the run and pass game.
On the right side, the guard competition is looking to be between Trovon Baugh and Tyler Thomas. As for the tackle position, it is also up for grabs between Wilkin Formby and Robert Bourdon.
At left tackle, the competition also falls on a very interesting contest between Tyree Adams and Lamont Rogers, with left guard the same way, with Coen Echols and Blake Ivy fighting for the spot.
Whoever gets the nod must pass block and run block efficiently because if that isn’t done effectively, more pressure falls on Reed not to turn the ball over.
Avoiding turnovers starts with assembling the right group that can do its job and let Reed use his feet, eyes, and arm to do the rest.
