College Baseball 2023 Season Kicks Off This Weekend

The nation's most underrated league returns this weekend with some serious firepower on tap.

College baseball is back. Crack your window, mow the lawn, and enjoy the ping of aluminum bats ringing in the spring season.

Opening weekend of the college baseball season always packs a punch with high-profile tournaments. While the North thaws out, its best baseball teams travel to Arlington and Arizona for top-notch competition. Here's where your eyes should be this weekend.

Tournaments Headline Weekend Action

The College Baseball Showdown– an annual tournament at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas– has been the opening weekend showcase for the last three seasons. This year, Texas, TCU, and Oklahoma State from the Big 12 matchup against Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and Missouri from the SEC. The tournament's top game might just come Friday between No. 10 Vanderbilt and No. 15 TCU.

Last year, eventual national runner-up Oklahoma put the country on notice by taking down Auburn and Michigan at this event. Two years ago, three teams from the field made Omaha, including national champion Mississippi State.

Out west, the MLB hosts the Desert Invitational between No. 2 Tennessee, Arizona, Grand Canyon, Michigan State, Fresno State, and UC San Diego. You can get a glimpse at one of this year's College World Series favorite Volunteers on MLB Network.

The game of the tournament also tees off Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT between the Vols and Arizona.

Top 25 Teams To Watch

Not all the best action takes form as a tournament. No. 24 Texas Tech hosts Gonzaga, a surprise team that won 37 games a season ago.

Liberty, who made last year's tournament visits No. 18 Southern Miss, a Super Regional participant who was eliminated by a eventual champions. No. 3 Stanford visits Cal State Fullerton who, despite recent struggles, is always a team threatening the top 25 rankings.

We'll also get our first look at exciting squads this year like No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 11 East Carolina, No. 13 Maryland, and No. 23 South Carolina.

Despite a warmup series against Western Michigan, you'll want to see Tommy White in his new purple and gold. LSU is the unanimous No. 1 preseason team with All Americans littered throughout the roster. The Tigers will be on show at the Round Rock Classic next weekend to face Texas, Kansas State, Sam Houston State, and Iowa.
