Evan Skoug and Brian Howard are returning to TCU.

A few days ago, the TCU Baseball Program welcomed back two former players, Evan Skoug and Brian Howard, as assistant coaches for the upcoming 2024 season. Skoug and Howard are two veteran Horned Frogs who have several trips to Omaha between them, Skoug with three trips in 2015, 2016, and 2017, and Howard with four trips while at TCU from 2014-2017. Not only do the two have postseason experience in college baseball, but they also have experience in professional baseball after both getting selected late in the 2017 MLB Draft.

TCU Horned Frogs pitcher Brian Howard (44) and catcher Evan Skoug (9) walk to the dugout before the start of the game against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the 2016 College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park.

In Howard’s time on the mound at TCU, he compiled an ERA of 3.46 in 262 2/3 innings pitched and was able to reach 266 strikeouts in his four years with the team. Howard appeared in nearly 150 minor league games over the course of six years in the Oakland Athletics organization and racked up 521 innings, earning himself a 4.39 ERA.

In Skoug’s time here in Fort Worth, the catcher/power hitter was electric at the plate hitting over 36 home runs in his three years with the team and compiling over 167 RBIs as well. Skoug was drafted in the 8th round in 2017 to the Chicago White Sox and played in over 300 games in the minor leagues resulting in Skoug getting just over 1000 at-bats in his 6 years in the minor Leagues.

While neither was ever given the chance to compete at the highest level, the experience they bring to the team for next season is, without a doubt, priceless and builds excitement in those who watched Skoug and Howards' career at TCU.
