Know Your Foe: Houston Baseball Players to Watch

Key players from the Cougars you will need to know when they take on the TCU Horned Frogs this weekend.

The TCU Horned Frogs take on the Houston Cougars on March 28-30. Here are some key Houston baseball players that TCU fans should know before the series.

Houston Cougars' Likely Pitching Rotation

Friday- #4 Antoine Jean

Senior Left-handed pitcher from Montreal, Canada

The 6'2" left-hand senior pitcher has been solid this season. Jean provides long, solid innings for this team, allowing the Cougars to stay in the game. It also allows them not to have to turn to the bullpen and use too many pitchers in the first game. He has been averaging close to six strikeouts per game and has kept his walk numbers super low. He has only allowed 10 walks all season. Jean has maintained an impressive 1.33 ERA. If the Horned Frogs' bats are off like they have been, he could be a problem.

Saturday- #20 Kyle LaCalameto

Graduate Student Left-handed pitcher from Cincinnati, Ohio

The 6'2" left hand Houston starter has had his ups and downs this season. Through six games, Lacalameto has a 3.38 ERA averaging about two strikeouts per game and only three walks in those outings. However, his outings have been short. His longest one this season was against Baylor where he with 3.2 innings. The Frogs must take advantage of Saturday and score as many runs as possible knowing he does not go long and deep innings.

Sunday- #21 Jaxon Jelkin

Junior Right-handed pitcher from Omaha, Nebraska

The 6'5" junior will likely get the nod on Sunday for the Cougars. He has been solid this season so far. Jelkin has averaged 6 strikeouts per game and has only walked seven batters all season. The right hand pitcher has been great at not giving up home runs this season, only giving up one so far. He provides solid innings for this team, allowing the team to set the tone of the game. He has maintained a 3.54 ERA. The Frogs must capitalize on him early and not let him get settled in. If they can do this, they will be in good shape for this matchup.
