Last year's best basketball conference will start the 2023-24 with four ranked teams and others in the wings. The AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll preseason polls were released on Monday. Both polls have Kansas as the No. 1 team in the nation.

In addition to Kansas, other Big 12 teams include Houston (7/6), Texas (18/18), and Baylor (20/17). Three other teams are receiving votes in at least one of the polls - TCU (33/29), Kansas State (35/35), and Iowa State (NR/44).

Other teams in the Top 10 include Duke (2/3), Purdue (3/2), Michigan State (4/4), Marquette (5/7), UConn (6/5), Creighton (8/8), Tennessee (9/10), and Florida Atlantic (10/9).

Arizona, a team that will join the Big 12 next season, is ranked (12/11), and Colorado, another team joining the league, is receiving votes.

Big 12 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll

Last week, the Big 12 released the 2023-24 preseason poll, as voted on by the head coaches in the conference. Kansas was chosen to win the regular season. In 28 seasons, KU has been picked outright or tied for first in 20 preseason ledgers and won or shared the regular season championship in 21 years. A coaches' preseason poll was not conducted in the Big 12's first season of 1996-97.
