TCU Basketball: Know Your Foe - West Virginia's RaeQuan Battle

TCU Men's Basketball plays West Virginia on Wednesday. In this article, we highlight one of the Moutaineers' hottest weapons this season.

The TCU Horned Frogs (19-10, 8-8) will travel to Morgantown, West Virginia on Wednesday, March 6 to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers (9-20, 4-12). TCU is coming off back-to-back losses against Baylor and BYU. The Frogs will look to rebound, as they have looked completely off and inconsistent. TCU has had its ups and downs this season, but it has shown it has what it takes to beat some of the best teams in the nation. They will need to finish this season strong. West Virginia is coming off of a trio of losses as they have struggled this season. The game is set for 6 P.M. CT and can be seen on ESPN+.

West Virginia Guard- #21 RaeQuan Battle

West Virginia has struggled this season and has not been able to find a rhythm in Big 12 play. They are led by their guards, which has been somewhat of a bright spot for this team. This will be the second matchup for these two teams this season. TCU won the initial matchup 81-65. Both are looking to play hard and get this win. However, TCU needs this win as they are looking for a berth in the NCAA Tournament. I chose to highlight RaeQuan Battle in this article because he has been tremendous this season, especially in scoring. He dropped 21 points on the Horned Frogs earlier this season.

Battle stands at 6'5'' and 195 lbs. and is one of the most efficient players on the West Virginia roster. He provides a lot of veteran leadership for this team. Battle shoots the ball well and is very efficient off the dribble. He is also very athletic, making him a great defender. The senior guard has provided a lot of scoring for this team.

He only has a few flaws, one being that he is an inconsistent shooter at times. Battle is also not the best rebounder, making it hard for West Virginia to get second-chance buckets. TCU must slow him down so West Virginia doesn't get hot. Even though they have struggled this season, it doesn't mean it will be a walk in the park for the Horned Frogs. Playing in Morgantown is always very challenging. The Frogs must stay hot the whole game.

Other Players To Watch For:

  • Senior Forwards- #0 Noah Waterman
    • Leads team in average Rebounds (4.1)
  • Junior Guard- #2 Kobe Johnson
    • Leads team in average Assists (2.3) and average Blocks (0.4)
  • Senior Center- #7 Jesse Edwards
    • Second on team in average scoring (14.3)
