BREAKING: Oklahoma, Texas Settle On 2024 Big 12 Exit For SEC

The speculation is over. The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns will depart the Big 12 for the SEC in June 2024, one year earlier than the initial June 2025 exit. The early exit attempts were first reported in December, but the sides reportedly came to an agreement Friday.

Per Action Network's Brett McMurphy, the deal has not yet been completed due to ESPN and Fox being "not satisfied" with the offer.

A deadline has not yet been set, but news like this typically moves quickly.

Oklahoma, Texas Withhold 2023 Football Schedule

The Big 12 Conference released their full 2023 college football schedule Tuesday. Included in the release were the four new members for 2023: BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF. Each school also released their own schedule individually.

While the Big 12 released the full schedule for Oklahoma and Texas, neither school issued a release themselves.

Of course, speculation of an immediate exit ran rampant. However, both the full Big 12 and SEC schedules had been both finalized and released to the public. A change up for 2023 would have created a logistical nightmare.

As of Feb. 3, neither school issued a release containing their schedule nor post it on their website.

Big 12-SEC Not Only Change On Tap

2023 marks the end of a lot of withstanding college football norms. Besides Oklahoma and Texas– who have been a part of the Big 12 Conference and its derivatives for over 100 years– UCLA and USC depart from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten.

This coming season also marks the end of the four-team College Football Playoff. It will expand to 12 teams starting in 2024.

Kennesaw State will join the FBS ranks, becoming the 134th member. With still 16 months standing between this current point and the mark of the 2024 athletic calendar, many more changes could be on the way.
