TCU Football: BYU Halftime Report
BYU received the opening kickoff, but on Kedon Slovis' first pass attempt, Millard Bradford jumped the lane and took it 35 yards for a pick-six to put the Frogs up 7-0. The Cougars couldn't get anything going on their second possession with a quick three and out.
On the first offensive possession for TCU, Josh Hoover delivered some big time throws on third down to keep the drive alive. On first down, he found J.P. Richardson over the middle, and he broke a tackle and took it 42 yards to the house to make it 14-0.
The defense was swarming early on with a sack by Jamoi Hodge ending the Cougars' third drive.
At the end of the first quarter, the Frogs were driving. Once again, Hoover was decisive with his reads and had some great ball placement. However, the drive stalled on a fourth and one handing the ball back to BYU.
Opening up the second quarter, Griffin Kell drilled a 40-yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-0. On their next possession, TCU was moving the ball down the field, but Eddie Heckard picked off Hoover's pass. However, BYU couldn't capitalize as they coughed up the ball themselves. A fumble recovery by Jamoi Hodge set up TCU at the BYU 42.
On third and seven, Hoover found Jared Wiley for the score, and the Frogs continued to roll leading 24-0. BYU converted a critical fourth and five to Chase Roberts for 39 yards. The Cougars would finally get on the board with 3:15 to go in the first half thanks to a three-yard touchdown from Keelan Marion. The Cougars cashed in on the two-point conversion to cut the lead to 24-8.
With 40 seconds left in the half, Hoover found Savion Williams on a slant route for a seven-yard score to extend the lead to 31-8. It was Hoover's third touchdown of the half, and it was all Frogs as they were firing on all cylinders.
