Seven TCU Horned Frogs To Play In College Football All-Star Games

Josh Newton, Andrew Coker headline selections to the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl. NFL scouts will get a close-up of six TCU Horned Frogs.

As the NFL Playoffs wind down, NFL Draft season begins. Two marquee events in the draft cycle are the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl – two invite-only events where scouts can see draftees in practices and game situations up close. Following up a historic TCU draft class, six Horned Frogs were invited to and will play in these two showcases this winter.

The Reese's Senior Bowl kicks off Saturday, Feb. 3 at 12:00 p.m. CT from Mobile, Alabama. The Shrine Bowl begins Thursday, Feb. 1 at 4:30 p.m. CT from Frisco, Texas. Both games will be televised, as will many of the practices, on NFL Network.

Coleman, Newton, Wiley, Bailey To Play In Senior Bowl

Guard Brandon Coleman, cornerback Josh Newton, tight end Jared Wiley, and running back Emani Bailey will all head to Mobile to participate in the Senior Bowl. Newton earned second team All-Big 12 honors in his final season in Fort Worth, recording an interception and only allowing 48% of his targets to be caught. He follows in the footsteps of Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, who was a mid-round draft pick to the Chargers last season. According to The Draft Network, Newton projects to be a Day 2 selection.

Wiley finished a breakout campaign where he hauled in eight touchdowns – including four in his final two games – and over 500 yards. He transferred to TCU from Texas in 2022 and saw his targets triple in 2023, from 21 to 65. His accomplishments didn't go unnoticed, as Wiley earned first team All-Big 12 honors alongside Texas' JT Sanders.

Coleman earned second team All-Big 12 honors in his last year with TCU. He started as left guard before sliding over to tackle and didn't miss a beat. Coleman allowed just 20 pressures on 429 pass snaps (4.7%) and no sacks despite moving positions.

Bailey received All-Big 12 recognition this past season as he rushed for a team-best 1,209 yards and eight touchdowns while adding 25 receptions and a receiving score. The 1,209 yards rank ninth for a season at TCU. He placed 14th nationally with an average of 100.8 yards rushing per game. The 82.9 increase from the 2022 campaign was the second-best improvement nationally.

The Senior Bowl broadcasts its practices throughout the week on NFL Network.

Coker, Patrick, Perry To Play In Shrine Bowl

Tackle Andrew Coker, guard Willis Patrick, and safety Mark Perry all accepted invitations to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Perry showed his versatility last fall, lining up as a box safety, free safety, and slot defensive back throughout the season. He recorded 56 tackles and earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 in his fifth collegiate season.

Coker, like Coleman, switched positions halfway through the year. Originally starting the year at left tackle, Coker slid to right tackle, opening the LT spot for Coleman. He allowed just one sack on the season (424 pass snaps) and was penalized just four times. Coker spent all five seasons with TCU, starting for three-and-a-half of those seasons on the offensive line.

Patrick played for three different schools in his three collegiate seasons. The last, of course, being at TCU, Patrick didn't give up a single sack on over 540 pass snaps and was tagged for just two penalties. He earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12, but arguably played the best among TCU's offensive linemen in 2023.

Stay tuned for NFL Draft projections for each of the six TCU Horned Frogs participating in these showcases.
