When Is The 2025 College Football National Championship Game?

Big changes are in store for the 2024-25 college football season. When and where is next year's National Championship Game?

The 2024 college football season ushers in the most dramatic shift in the sport's modern history. The College Football Playoff field expands from four to 12, and, as a result, the National Championship Game is pushed back a couple of weeks. The 2025 College Football National Championship game kicks off on Monday, Jan. 20, from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

View of the confetti falling as Alabama Crimson Tide wins the game in overtime against the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2018 CFP national championship college football game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will host the 2025 National Championship Game. It last hosted the game in 2018 when Alabama defeated Georgia.

As is been the case since 1999, ESPN will broadcast the game. In 2015, the "Mega-cast" was introduced, offering ten different viewing and streaming options for the game.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium To Host 2025 National Championship

The last time Atlanta hosted a college football National Championship, we got an instant classic between Alabama and Georgia in 2018. The Tide won in overtime thanks to a heroic pass from Tua Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith – two future superstars. Notably, Mercedes-Benz Stadium also hosts the SEC Championship Game.

Atlanta is one of the major hubs of college football. Downtown hosts the College Football Hall of Fame, a must for any fan traveling to this game next January.

Home to the Falcons in the NFL, Mercedes-Benz Stadium seats 71,000 fans. It opened in 2016 with a price tag of $1.6B, replacing the old Georgia Dome and giving Atlanta a premier facility. Since then, it hosted a Super Bowl in 2019 and was scheduled to be the site for the NCAA men's basketball Final Four in 2020 (which was cancelled).

Orange, Cotton Bowls Selected As CFP Semifinals

2024 marks the first time all New Year's Six bowl games are CFP games. The Capital One Orange Bowl and Goodyear Cotton Bowl are next year's semifinal games, with the Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Sugar Bowl serving as quarterfinal games. The two semifinal bowls will rotate each year.

The Orange and Cotton Bowls last hosted the semifinals in 2021.

Traditionally, semifinal games kick off at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET, with the set times chosen after the teams are set.
