TCU Rifle: No. 1 Frogs Remain Undefeated With Win Over UTEP

The No. 1 TCU women’s rifle team remains perfect on the season as they fired a team score of 4,742 in the win over UTEP on Saturday.
Julie Johannessen became the fifth TCU Horned Frog to fire a perfect 600 in air rifle. It’s the sixth time the feat has been accomplished in program history.
The Horned Frogs boasted the top eight aggregate marks in the match. They were by a career-high from Johannessen (1,195). Katie Zaun (1,185), Abigail Gordon (1,184), Kristen Hemphill (1,178), and Stephanie Allan (1,175) rounded out the top five.
Johannessen continued her prowess in smallbore, leading all shooters with a 595. She has now fired a 591 or better in smallbore in every match this season. It’s tied for the fourth-best score in program history. Gordon and Zaun contributed identical scores of 588, and Hemphill shot a 582.
All TCU shooters eclipsed the 590 mark in air rifle. Behind the perfection from Johannessen, Zaun fired a 597 to finish second. Gordon and Hemphill shot identical marks of 596, followed by a 595 from Allan. Mikole Hogan finished sixth with a 594, followed by a 593 from White and a 592 from Schuett.
UTEP fired a team score of 4,541 in the match. The Miners were led by Jonna Warnken’s ninth-place finish. She fired an 1,158 aggregate mark that included a team-high 591 in air rifle.
Next up: The TCU Horned Frogs travel to El Paso to take on UTEP on Saturday, January 28. TCU begins postseason action on Feb. 4 at the PRC Championships hosted by Alaska-Fairbanks. The Championships feature Air Force, Alaska, Nebraska, Ohio State, TCU, and UTEP. The match will begin with smallbore on Saturday and conclude with air rifle on Sunday.
