TCU Women’s Soccer: Horned Frogs Advance to the Sweet 16

On Friday, No. 17 TCU played in frigid conditions against No. 6 Michigan State in the Second Round of the NCAA tournament.
Coming off a 3-1 victory over UTSA, the Horned Frogs started the same way they finished with a goal in the opening minutes of the contest. Assisted by defender Chaylyn Hubbard, Camryn Lancaster received the ball at the edge of the penalty area with no oncoming pressure. With time and space, she launched a left-footed strike that found the back of the net.

It was a phenomenal shot through traffic that a diving Lauren Kozal was unable to keep out.
Despite conceding early, Michigan State didn’t go down easily. The Spartans generated numerous attacks, posing a real threat to TCU’s defense. But the Frogs’ backline remained strong and stout while goalkeeper Lauren Kellett made four first half saves.

Later in the match, the Spartans nearly equalized, but good goalkeeping from Kellett kept the Frogs in front. But the Spartans came closest when back-to-back shots reverberated off the crossbar in the final minutes of the match.
The Frogs were able to hold on to their lead, clinching the team’s sixth clean sheet of 12th clean sheet of the season. With a win over Michigan State, the Frogs advance to the Sweet 16 where they will face No. 1 Notre Dame on Sunday, November 20 in South Bend, Indiana.
