Tennessee In Position They Can't Complain About

The Tennessee Volunteers will get a rematch with the LSU Tigers in the College World Series elimination bracket.

We've all heard the phrase, "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Making the best of a situation should be the mentality of any sports team in the world, and it's really a great life message in general. However, we aren't here to give motivational speeches or discuss life lessons. That might be Tony Vitello's job as his team is in a position they can't be upset about.

Sometimes in sports, you get a bad hand. Injuries, bad bounces, and much more can impact the winner and loser. For Tennessee, they got a near-impossible task upon arriving in Omaha. Having to beat Paul Skenes or Quinn Mathews to keep your season alive is far from an ideal situation. Skenes through 123 pitches to down the Vols in the opening round, and then Tennessee had to face Mathews, arguably the best lefty in the country, to keep their season going. Sports aren't by the book though and on Monday, something amazing happened: Tennessee hit a lefty.

After struggling all season, the Vols got to Mathews, tagging him for 10 hits and 4 earned runs in less than 5 innings. 6 innings from Chase Burns in relief propelled the Vols along in the elimination bracket to set up a rematch with LSU. This time in a win-or-go-home game. Now don't get me wrong, LSU is a tough team to beat regardless of Skenes being on the mound. However, in baseball, when a team can't hit a pitcher, it is sometimes a huge sigh of relief and a confidence boost when he isn't out there. Could that happen to the Vols on Tuesday? We know Tennessee is comfortable throwing Drew Beam, and while Wake Forest awaits the winner, it's just one game at a time right now.
