Rickey Gibson III Reveals Mindset For Tennessee Football

Tennessee Volunteers corner Rickey Gibson III met with the media and discussed how he's competing for playing time in his second season.

Tennessee corner Rickey Gibson III spent his first season with the program learning behind older, more inexperienced players. He appeared in twelve contests and played a major role on special teams, logging nine tackles and a pass deflection as a true freshman. With many of those players now gone, Gibson's in a position to compete for a significant role with the team.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Gibson is the No. 321 prospect in the 2023 class. The Trussville, Alabama, native chose the Vols over a myriad of other SEC suitors. He made an impression when he arrived on campus and is taking that mindset even further during spring practices.

"I’ve got to be more reliable," Gibson told the media this week. Just know that when they do throw that ball to that side of the field, it’s incomplete. Everybody knows it’s incomplete." Oregon State transfer corner Jermod McCoy looks to have a stronghold on one of the outside corner spots, but Gibson is firmly in the mix to grab the other outside slot.
