The Tennessee Volunteers had several notable standouts amid their "Orange and White" scrimmage on Saturday.
The Tennessee Volunteers just wrapped up their annual spring orange and white game that takes place every year to conclude spring practice ahead of summer camp. The game concluded with a score of 21-14 in favor of the white team, which was the offensive roster.
The layout was quite similar to Josh Heupel’s previous spring games. The white team represented the offense, the orange team represented the defense, and the Smokey Grey was the noncontact team for the quarterbacks.
Nico Iamaleava
Iamaleava is the clear-cut leader for the quarterback position. He was the primary backup to super senior Joe Milton last season up until the bowl game in which Milton opted out, giving the California kid his time to shine. In this one, he was nearly unfazed as he had 96 yards through the air as he went 7-for-9, and had a touchdown pass to Chas Nimrod. He didn’t throw an interception, either. However, all quarterbacks did quite well.
Mike Matthews
The freshman had arguably the biggest moment in the game as he beat Jordan Matthews deep for a 63-yard touchdown reception.
Chris Brazzell II
Brazzell was not shy of a long touchdown, either. He beat transfer Jalen McMurray deep and finished the day with three catches for 78 yards.
Boo Carter
Carter had an underrated day as he fielded all punts cleanly for Tennessee and had three tackles while having a tackle for loss for the Volunteers.
Edwin Spillman
Spillman had the best day defensively. He had six tackles, five of which were solo tackles and a sack. The hard-nosed linebacker has high expectations from this staff, as he is a downhill threat and will violently take your head off.
